James Howard Kirkwood

Jim Kirkwood, age 81, passed away Sunday, October 24, 2021.

Jim was born May 3, 1940 in Iowa City, Iowa to Herman and Marie (Grim) Kirkwood. He grew up in Humeston, Iowa. He married Mary Hebron on May 6, 1963. Jim worked as a supervisor for John Deere for 23 years prior to his retirement in 1997.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary; daughter, Marla Kirkwood Wylie (Chuck); best friend, Jacob Hillebo; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers.

Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m., followed by funeral service at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 30, 2021 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave, Des Moines. Burial will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to Easter Seals Camp Sunnyside in honor of Jim’s best friend, Jacob John Hillebo.

The family wants to thank Davita Ankeny Staff and Doctors and Ankeny Fire Station #2 for their care of Jim.
