Nancy Jane Cathcart

Nancy Jane Cathcart, 86, passed away October 21, 2021 at her home at Deerfield. Services will be held Wednesday, October 27, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, IA with visitation to follow. Nancy’s cremated remains will be laid to rest at Masonic Cemetery with her husband, Russ.

Nancy was born in Des Moines, IA on December 29, 1934 to Ellen (Glen) and Wayne Ulm. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1952 and took college courses in the evening while working as the Morehouse Dorm Receptionist at Drake University.

Nancy enjoyed an active lifestyle before her challenges with Alzheimer’s. She was a member of Daughters of the Nile, the Red Hat Ladies, Lutheran Church of Hope in West Des Moines, and an active volunteer with Methodist West Hospital.

She is survived by her children, Shelley Lytle and Rick Cathcart; her brother, Bob (Connie) Ulm; her grandchildren, Jeffrey Lytle, Jennifer (Joe) Lytle Lappegard and Nicklaus Cathcart; and great-grandchildren, Jason and Jayda Lappegard. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Russell Sherwood Cathcart; and her sister, Glennys Crow.

Memorials may be directed to the benefit of St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
