Service Details

Tracy Lynn Bruce, age 54, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 21, 2021 at home surrounded by her loved ones.

Tracy was born in Des Moines, Iowa on October 31, 1966, with her twin sister, Kelly Huxtable, to Peggy Ann Beaver. Tracy grew up tough, sweet, and smart, graduating from Des Moines High School and earning an Associate Degree in Accounting from DMACC Urban Campus. Taking her outgoing and dynamic personality to work in healthcare as a CNA, CMA, and CAR for 35 years. The residents loved her smile and laughter, and she loved treating them back every day. She finished her career in healthcare as a Patient Transporter, taking her charges to appointments no matter how far. Iowa City Hospitals were quite a challenging jaunt for Tracy, she would say, very tedious, but she made it happily for her patients with music and jokes on the way. Tracy left healthcare and joined her husband Paul and her son Alex at Mittera (Colorfx) in the mail/shipping department. She excelled in this role. Her organizing skills, sharp mind and her direct gruff nature won her so much praise and notice she took over the department. Becoming her husband’s boss cracked many a smile at Mittera. Tracy made friends in all departments because of her do the job and do the job right attitude.

Foremost though for Tracy was family. Tracy loved and nurtured her family deeply. This love kept her family close with her dinner birthday celebrations, Sunday family dinners, and best of all the holidays. Being born a witch on Halloween was her favorite. We all know how creative Tracy became with costumes over the years at PHC and Mittera. Lion, Butterfly, Devil Driver, Elephant, and Zebra entertained us, and she rallied her family members to dress in full costume each year to celebrate her birthday at either a barbeque restaurant or her favorite Italian eatery, Marino's Italian Restaurant.

Tracy is survived by her husband of 37 years Paul Anthony Bruce, her three sons Michael Steven James, Nicholas Anthony Bruce and Alexander Ryan Bruce, her mother Peggy Ann Beaver, her sisters Kelly Jo Huxtable, Maria Kay Waller and Christina Diane Madden, two grandchildren, one step-grandchild, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

The Bruce family is greatly appreciative for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support from Tracy’s coworkers and management staff at Mittera. All your words of encouragement and contributions helped our family immensely. Thank you so very, very much.

Thank you to UnityPoint At Home for your care and support you provided Tracy and Paul during this difficult time. Thank you and God bless.

There will be a time of sharing starting at 2:00 p.m., with a celebration of life to follow until 5:00 p.m., on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Tracy.
