Genevieve (Ginnie) Kay Bell
October 20, 2021
Ginnie Bell, age 77, passed away on October 20, 2021 at Methodist Medical Center. She was born on November 18, 1943 in Des Moines and graduated from East High School. It was during high school she met Michael Bell and they were married on December 30, 1961.
She worked for the State of Iowa until her retirement in 2004 and could often be found participating in many team events with coworkers. Socializing remained Ginnie’s favorite activity. She had lunches and activities planned nearly every week of her life. She talked of her coffee group (the girls), investment club, sewing group, neighborhood friends, school classmates and so many more.
Ginnie enjoyed travel, music, dancing, reading, long walks (often to Granny’s Sweet Freeze) and casinos. Her greatest joy in life was her family. Ginnie was the biggest cheerleader for her children and grandchildren, attending sports and activities and encouraging them in their passions.
Ginnie is survived by her husband of nearly 60 years, Michael Bell, and daughters Steffany (Buddy) Bellis of Pleasant Hill, Sue (Jeff) Jungck of Mesa, AZ, Kim (Doug) Ripley of Ankeny; grandchildren Amanda and Austin (Haley Urness) Bellis and Evan, Gannon, and Callen Ripley. Ginnie was preceded in death by her parents, Delos and Irene Signs, and six siblings, Raymond, Gary, Larry, and Donald Signs, Glenda Wolf, and Sharon Bell.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, November 22 at 11 a.m. with family welcoming guests at 10:30 a.m. at Hope Lutheran Church, 3857 E 42nd Street, Des Moines. Visitation and luncheon at 11:45 a.m. Casual attire please. Flower deliveries welcome from 9-10 a.m. at the church on day of service.
If you wish to honor Ginnie with a memorial contribution, please consider one of her favorite organizations: Food Bank of Iowa, East High School Alumni Foundation, American Cancer Society.

My mother-in-law Ginnie was the most loving person I have ever known.
She truly was a second mother to me. Always willing to help anyone in need. I will always remember her chuckle and the twinkle in her eye when she was with the grand kids. You will be missed. Rest peacefully without anymore pain.
