Paul L. Nelson

Paul L. Nelson, 94, passed away on August 28, 2021, at Veterans Hospital in Des Moines. He was born in Cherokee, Iowa on May 16, 1927, the son of Edgar and Fanny (Wright) Nelson. He served in the US Army from July 1945 through January 1947. Paul was an over-the-road truck driver until he was in a serious truck accident that ended his driving career due to permanent disability.
Paul enjoyed spending time with his friends having a soda at his favorite watering hole in Altoona, boating, and playing the lottery.
Paul is survived by his son, Mike (Cindy) Nelson of Pleasant Hill; step-daughter, Bonita (Don) Jurgensen of Waukee and their children Dawn (Jeff) Ashmore and Dean (Justine) Jurgensen; four sisters, Jane, Doris, Fern, and Dorothy; and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, September 18, 2021, from 1 to 4 pm at the Olde Town Tap, Altoona, IA. Burial will be in Cherokee, Iowa at a later date.
