Judith (Buckroyd) Cox
August 18, 2021
Judith A. (Buckroyd) Cox, age 80, passed away peacefully at home on August 18, 2021, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Des Moines on July 19, 1941, the daughter of Kathleen (West) and Robert Buckroyd, Sr.
Judy graduated from North High School in 1958. Following graduation, she worked at Wolf Studio retouching photo negatives. Over the years, Judy worked various jobs, retiring from Northwestern Bell after more than 20 years of dedicated service.
As a single mother, one of her greatest accomplishments was raising six children while supporting and guiding them as they each completed high school.
In her younger years, Judy obtained her motorcycle license and proudly maintained the license until her passing. Her greatest passion was the game of billiards. Until the Covid pandemic, she played in several weekly pool leagues. Judy was the Women's Singles Champion at the 1988 Bush Pool League National Championship in Orlando, Florida. She was the first Iowan to claim the women's title. Judy thoroughly enjoyed sharing her passion with her family and loved when her children or grandchildren played on her team.
Judith is survived by her children, Kimberly (Gary) Sacker, Timothy Cox, Sr., Terri (George) Williams, George (Chi) Cox, Kelly Jo (Carl) Hotchkiss, and Ivan “Ike” Cox II; grandchildren, Anthony Fernandes, Dustin Reed, Andrew Cox, Stephanie Cox, Timothy Cox, Jr., Austin Sacker, Samantha Cox, Zachary Cox, Justin Sacker, and Jacob Cox; 11 great-grandchildren with 2 due in November; siblings, Robert Buckroyd, Jr., Jack Simpson, Mary Beth Seghi, and James Buckroyd; her dear friend, Pat Pasco, as well as many nieces, nephews, and a host of other loving family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Thomas Buckroyd, Sr.; sisters-in-law, Jane Buckroyd and Dianna Buckroyd.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 4, 2021, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines with urn burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Friday evening from 5-7 p.m.

I met Judy years ago playing pool. Over the years we became good friends. I will miss her ornery grin and her kind heart. I know most of her children and grand children, and what a testament they are to her adventurers spirit. Rest in peace my friend until we meet again.

I loved Aunt Judy with all my heart. As I did Uncle Ike and all of my cousin's. Elaine and I would have been there. If we had known. We are so sorry for the news. Our thoughts are with you all at this time. God bless.

I am so sorry to read about the passing away of your mother. I worked at the phone company with her and always enjoyed talking to her. We actually met at baseball games when our boys were teammates.

Judy was my Mother, Pat Rundle's, BFF for many, many years. The trouble those two got into would curl your hair! Then she dated my Uncle Ernest (Ernie) Rundle until his death. Judy was such a part of our family. It's just nice to know "the girls" are back together again.

It is with deep regret that we lose another of our pool family. Judy was a good friend who was good at giving out free advice on shooting her beloved game.Judy will be missed by all those who shot against her, and especially those of us who shot with her.
