Joseph Edward Barton passed away and went home to be with the Lord on June 19th, 2021, at the age of 87. He was a lifelong resident of Des Moines, Iowa, and resided in Carpinteria, California for a time.

The son of Joseph and Alma (Kelly) Barton, was born on October 21st, 1933, in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He grew up attending Catholic Schools and as an altar boy.

He enjoyed spending time with family, dining out, watching old classic horror movies, and dancing was of great enjoyment to him. He had a good sense of humor. He loved traveling to areas in the surrounding Des Moines area, such as Pella and the Amana Colonies, as well as driving on longer travels earlier in his life to California, Colorado, Oregon, Minnesota, surrounding states and Lake Superior into Canada.

He spent time with his daughters hiking, playing miniature golf, and many outdoor activities younger in life.

He was also in the military. He was a proud Marine who served from 1950 to 1953, 4th division, stationed in many different countries, including Korea. Thank you for your service.

He leaves a lot of dear memories, had a good sense of humor and will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Barton, Sr.; mother, Kelly Barton; brother, Dennis Michael Barton; and son-in-law, William Behrend.

Joseph is survived by his significant other, Judy Shaw of Des Moines, Iowa; daughters, Kelly Behrend of Yucca Valley, California, and Lisa Davis (James Anderson) of Carson City, Nevada; granddaughter, Krystal Bratcher (Joshua Bratcher) of Yucca Valley, California; great-grandchildren, April Scaccianoce (Grayden), Sierra Bratcher, Joshua Bratcher Jr., and Kali Bratcher; and one great-great-granddaughter, Aquamarine Scaccianoce of Yucca Valley, California.

Memorial services will be held in August at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Dallas County, 34024 Veterans Memorial Drive, Adel, Iowa. Where he will be laid to rest.
