Theresa Thomas, age 62, passed away on Saturday, June 19, 2021. Theresa was born on June 6, 1959 in Freetown, Sierra Leone.

Theresa was a strong woman of faith, she touched the lives and hearts of everyone she met and brought many people closer in their own faith. Her little, but impactful gestures and simple act of kindness will never go unforgotten. Even during hard times, she remained a fighter through God’s grace. It was God’s grace that protected and guided her and her family as they resettled in Des Moines, IA from Freetown, Sierra Leone.

Theresa lived a selfless life, always concerned about others. She was always encouraging people and loved giving helpful advice. She taught her children to be kind, fair, tolerant, forgiving and content. These, she said are the pathway to happiness. She raised her children to believe in themselves and know that nothing is impossible.

She will be remembered as a loving, caring, and kind mother not only to her own children, but to all. She opened her heart & home to others and never turned anyone away. In her free time, she enjoyed doing arts & crafts, travelling, listening to music, going to concerts, watching movies and especially loved soccer.

Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband, Cuthbert Thomas; children, Adeyemi (Abigail) Christopher Cole, Cutty (Kathryn) Thomas, and Catherine L. (Julian) Stronge; and her grandchildren, Mek Thomas and Cuthlyn Thomas.

Theresa was preceded in death by her aunt, Annie Maude Cole.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with funeral service to begin at 12:00 p.m., Friday, July 2, 2021 at Basilica of St. John, 1915 University Ave., Des Moines. Interment will follow at Glendale Cemetery, Des Moines.

Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Jude Children's Hospital in memory of Theresa.
