Steven Arrasmith
June 12, 2021
Steven James Arrasmith, born March 10, 1960, died June 12, 2021, surrounded by family and friends who loved him.
Steve lived life to the fullest with no regrets. He was a master carpenter, a 12 year National Guard Veteran, a lover of Ancient Aliens (TV show) and his fur-babies. Steve loved to teach others about his woodworking craft, helping family and friends when in need and playing games and pranks to keep us all laughing. He had a passion for rocks, pocket watches, pocket knives, zippo lighters, his wife, his daughters and the children he “adopted” along the way. He was always happy for an adventure, for a long, heartfelt talk and big bear hugs. Steve was truly a “Simple Man” unique in his own way and never did anything by the books!
Steve is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Arrasmith; daughters, Amanda and Amber Arrasmith Kerr; parents, Carolyn (Ed) Jordan and James Arrasmith; brother, Jack (Bridget) Arrasmith; sisters-in-law, Debbie (Mark) Hampton and Janet Charron; step-sister, Jodi Lyons; step-sister-in-law, Jackie Cartwright Lyons; and fur-babies, Bobbie and Darwin.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Joe and Maxine White and Virginia and Robert Arrasmith; step-mother, Linda Arrasmith; brother-in-law, John Belieu; step-brother, Jon Lyons; aunt, Jean Smith; in-laws, John and Darlene Belieu; and many fur-babies.
A memorial service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday, June 21, 2021, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Casual attire preferred.
In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in Steve’s honor to either Animal Lifeline or A-Heinz 57.

To the Arrasmith family, my prayers go out to you all in your time of sorrow. I did not get to spend a lot of time around Steve because of living in Texas, but when he and Barb did open their home, heart and arms, it was always full of his jokes and laughter. You are a special person Steve, now go and make the heavens shake with your laughter. You are loved.

Jim and Family,
I'm so sorry for your loss. I always enjoyed the chance to talk with Steve when I stopped by the cabinet shop. He was a hard working and skilled woodworker. Most importantly he was a good man.

Such sadness in learning this morning of Steve's passing. Although we hadn't seen him for several years, we remember our history with him, Barb, and Amanda fondly. Barb and I were pregnant at the same time with our daughters, Amanda and Jamie, being born only months apart. Our sincere condolences to Jim, Barb, Amanda, and family. We send our deepest love to Jim during this most difficult and heartbreaking time.

Steve, Barb, and Amanda were some of our first neighbors when we bought our first home in Des Moines, and we couldn't have asked for anything better! Many a rainy night was spent in our street, staring aimlessly at a blown transformer, wondering when our power would return, and cussing Mid American Energy. Steve was always there to lend a hand, loan a tool, or just do what needed to be done. We are better for having been blessed by knowing him and our hearts ache for the family. Sending a warm hug and lifting you all up in prayer. God bless.
