Service Details
William "Bill" Stokes, 61, passed away Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 5, 2009 at Staves Memorial United Methodist Church followed by burial at Vandalia Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Hamilton's Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street.
Bill was born November 29, 1947 in Chester, SC. He retired from the Des Moines Public Library. He taught community adult education classes. William was a 32nd degree Mason, a member of Scottish Rite, Acanthus Masonic Lodge #62, National Association of Power Engineers, ARRLs, Des Moines Amateur Radio Association, and of Staves Memorial United Methodist Church.
Bill is survived by his wife, Pat; daughter, Cathy; mother, Dorothy Pearl Stokes; and his brother, Hinton Mahon Stokes II. He was preceded in death by his father, Hinton Mahon Stokes.
Memorial contributions may be made to his church.

Pat and Cathy,
We are so sorry to hear about Bill's heart attack. He had survived so many medical challenges in the last few years and just kept going. God gave him so much strength to face adversity with an incredibly positive attitude. What a wonderful person! He will be missed in so many circles including the HAM community but none as deeply as in your hearts and home.
We will keep you both in our prayers during this time when the world just seems completely upside down.

Hinton, So sorry to hear about your brother. You talked very fondly of him when we worked together. My you and your enire family cherrish his memories. A brother is very special.

Pat and Cathy,
It is with disbelief that Bill is gone. Just last Sunday we ushered together at church. We are reminded of how he was always willing to lend a hand when asked.
It is most difficult to lose a loving husband and father and yet we all know because of his faith that the Lord had a need for this very talented person and called him home before we were ready to say goodbye.
The days ahead will be difficult but be assured that our prayers are with you both and the rest of your family. We too grieve the loss of a great man who was always there when others needed help.
