Donald Lee Hansen

Donald Lee Hansen, 72, passed away on March 27, 2021. He was born in LeMars, Iowa, on October 20, 1948, to Cletus and Loretta Hansen.

Don graduated from Carroll Kuemper Catholic High School and proudly served his country as a sergeant in the United States Air Force. He owned a family business with his father and brothers, known as Hansen and Sons Plumbing, prior to becoming a Chief Plumbing Inspector for the City of Des Moines for over 31 years. Don was a member of IAPMO and loved his career and all the friendships made during that time.

Don also enjoyed riding his Harley. He was married to the love of his life, Barbara, for almost 30 years before she unexpectedly passed away in 2012. Above all else, he treasured time spent with his family, especially his granddaughters.

Don is survived by his daughters, Danielle (Scott) Hunt and Jennifer (Damian) Wojtowicz; granddaughters, Mya and Avril; siblings, Wally (Annette) Hansen and Darlene Law; sister-in-law, Carol Hansen; other loving family and many special friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barb Hansen; parents, Cletus and Loretta (Fiedler) Hansen; brother, Larry Hansen; and brother-in-law, Bruce Law.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, April 2, 2021, at Ss. John and Paul Catholic Church, 1401 1st Ave S. in Altoona. The family will receive visitors from 5-7 p.m., Thursday at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street SW, Altoona. Harley Davidson attire is welcomed. Burial will take place at 9:30 a.m., on Friday, at Iowa Veterans Cemetery.
