John R. Vance

John Robert Vance, 76, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, March 29, 2021 at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines.

John, the son of Charlie Vance and Minnie (Hair) Vance, was born on March 5, 1945 in Spencer, Iowa. He graduated from Spencer High School in 1964, studied at Capital Institute of Technology in Washington DC, and graduated from American Institute of Business in Des Moines. He worked in the finance department for an auto dealership until his retirement approximately 15 years ago. He married Linda March 31, 1972 in Des Moines Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Linda; brother, Gordon Vance; and granddaughter, Hailey.

He is survived by daughters, Teresa Vance of Des Moines and Veronica Gladwin of Carlisle, Iowa; sister, Betty Weikum of Spencer, Iowa; brother, Donn (Linda) Vance of Monterey, Tennessee; and his four grandchildren, Ryan Hochart, Caitlin Vance, Ashley Gladwin, and Emily Gladwin.

A celebration of life will be held at Altoona Baptist Church, 803 3rd Avenue SW in Altoona, Iowa, date to be determined. Please check back for details.
