Jerry Eugene Mercer, 78, passed away on March 9, 2021 at his home.

Jerry was born August 14, 1942 to Theresa and Ray Mercer in Kansas. He moved to Iowa at a young age.

He enjoyed playing his guitar at the Senior Center, playing pool, drinking beer, golfing, and hanging at the race track. When he wasn’t doing that he was taking care of his bar, Eastgate Lounge.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Candy Mercer; five daughters, Wanda Stevens of Des Moines, Wanita Mercer of Omaha, Theresa (Rich) Taylor of Des Moines, Taunya (Fred) Plater of Omaha, and Sharlee Mercer (Shawn Alsager) of Des Moines; grandchildren, Sonja, Ashley, Cole, Chaunessy, Ramsey, Jettidiah, Nathen, Shawn-Michael, Alec, Christian, Samantha, and Breyden; nine great grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; baby sister, Wanda; and grandchild, Starla.

Family will greet friends and family from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Friday, March 12, 2021 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral service to follow at 5:00 pm also at the funeral home.
