Celia B. Jordan
November 25, 2020
Celia Belle Jordan, devoted wife and mother of 2 children, passed away at the age of 82 on November 25, 2020. Services will be held Saturday, December 5, 2020 at 12:30 p.m. at Westkirk Presbyterian Church, 2700 Colby Woods Drive in Urbandale IA. Please wear your mask and maintain social distance if you are attending services in person.
Celia was born in 1938 in Des Moines IA to Betty Celia (Wilson) and William Thomas Shaver. She grew up in Beaverdale IA, graduating from Roosevelt High School in 1956, and then joining her father to work at Meredith Publishing Company. She married Don Elton Jordan on 8-8-58 at 8 pm, and then moved to Burbank CA where they ran a successful aerospace company and raised their family. Together with their daughter, Cathy, they devoted their lives to caring for their disabled son Jeff who suffered from muscular dystrophy. The family was determined to give Jeff the best life possible...and they think they succeeded. The couple moved back to Iowa 11 years ago after their retirement.
Celia was large and in charge despite her small frame. The matriarch led her family through ups and downs with a “can do” attitude, refusing to let life’s challenges get in her way. She was a mother figure to many, but had a special affection for her nephew Tony Jordan who was like a son to her. Celia’s ability to find humor in the face of tragedy was a gift to those around her. Her kind and compassionate demeanor provided comfort to many people who needed a sheltering soul on their side.
She loved crocheting and all kinds of crafting. She spent many hours making blankets and other items for her friends and family, for babies at the local hospitals, and to sell at craft fairs. She also loved reading and had a wonderful green thumb for growing violets.
Celia was preceded in death by her son Jeffrey Scott Jordan, and she will be greatly missed by her husband Don, her daughter Cathy Jordan, her sister Cynthia Fisher, her brother Tom Shaver, and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Benevolent Fund at New Hope Assembly of God Church, 4425 70th Street, Urbandale, IA 50322. Condolences may be expressed at www.HamiltonsFuneralHome.com.

I enjoyed having Celia for a neighbor at St Andrews. we enjoyed each other's flowers, shared recipes and leftivers. We watched the owls and deer and foxes. We cursed the bunnies and squirrels one minute and laughed at them the next. I will always smile when I think of Celia.
