Orville D. Cox
November 24, 2020
Orville D. Cox, 97, went to be with the Lord on November 24, 2020.
Orville was born February 3, 1923 in Des Moines to Dee and Violet (Boatwright) Cox. He attended Lincoln High and joined the Army Air Corps in 1940 at the age of 17. He served in World War II as a member of the 836th Bomber Squadron 484th Bomber Group, where he flew top turret and was credited for 51 missions.
In 1945 while on leave, Orville met his wife to be Elizabeth “Della” (Landsaw). They were married 4 months later, settling down on Des Moines’ south side where they raised their 3 boys; Dan, Dave and Mark.
Orville flourished in his career as a sought after Tool & Die Maker, managing multiple companies across Iowa. He worked many years at Dyamatic in Montezuma and ultimately retired from Zeller Brothers in 1987.
After retirement, Orville and Della enjoyed attending their grandkids sporting and other events, watching and listening to the Chicago Cubs, playing Skip-Bo with friends and spending their winters camping in Texas listening to blue grass music and soaking up the sun, whenever possible.
Orville is survived by his sons Daniel (Linda) Cox and Mark (Diane) Cox; 7 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was proceeded in death by his wife of 64 years, Elizabeth ”Della” Cox; his son, David Dee Cox; his sister, Ruth Adele Cox and his grandson, James Cox.
Due to Covid-19, we are limiting the service to family only on Tuesday, December 1st at 11am, followed by a military burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Grace Baptist Church and condolences may be shared at www.HamiltonsFuneralHome.com.

Dan: Im sorry to hear about your loss which is heavens gain. Your dad was one of the bright spots in this world. Very good picture of him in the paper. I remember your Dad & mine working in the bus ministry at Grace Baptist Church, Monthly fellowships, and many fond memories growing up in that environment. May God be your comfort at this time. We can be eternally grateful for what our parents taught us.
