Helen Regina Moore, 94, died peacefully in her sleep on August 7, 2009 at the Mercy Hospice in Johnston, Iowa. Helen was born at Mt. Etna in Adams County and was one of six children. Helen’s parents, her siblings, and one niece have all preceded her in death. She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Cate (Stan) Yank, Mike Moore, Pat (Don) Sisto and L. James Moore, all who will miss her deeply
Helen graduated high school from St. Joseph's Academy and college from Mt. St. Scholastica. She taught school at Moreland, Iowa before moving to Des Moines where she worked for the Federal Government at the Social Security Office.
When the freeway was constructed, Helen lost her home in that area and moved to Windsor Heights. She had been a long time resident there, living with a sister and cousin until their deaths.
Helen was a member of St. Theresa's church. She spoke with passion when she said, "God has been so good to me. I live in a good country, in a safe neighborhood, I have a good job, and I have wonderful neighbors and friends."
She leaves behind a host of sincere friends and neighbors, many close friends from her church, all of whom will miss her and her optimistic outlook about life and people. Her faith was strong; she was ready to meet her God.
Helen's memorial service will be held at St. Theresa's Catholic Church on Saturday, August 22 at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Theresa's.
