John C. Peterson of Lompoc, California died unexpectedly at home on Tuesday, July 21, 2009, at the age of 48.
John was born in Iowa on April 15, 1961, graduating from East High School in Des Moines, Iowa in 1979.
A resident of Lompoc since 1999, John was an equipment operator at Baroda Farms and worked many years on the oil refineries off the coast of California and Washington states.
John is survived by his wife of 10 years Sandra Peterson of Lompoc; his mother Margaret Peterson of Des Moines; brother Greg (Patty) Peterson of Minneapolis, Minnesota; sister Jane (Bob) Keller of Mitchelville, Iowa; daughter LaRissa (Perry) Harrell and her daughters Madison Rasmussen and Peighton Harrell of Des Moines, son John Peterson, Jr. of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; son Shane Peterson of Des Moines; step-sons Joshua and Jake (Nikki) DeGard of Des Moines, step-grandchildren, Hunter and Nevaeh DeGard.
His father Gene Peterson recently preceded John in death.
A memorial visitation will be on Monday, July 27, from 6-8 pm at Hamilton's Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street in Des Moines.

John and I were good friends when we worked together in Lompoc Ca, I still think of him often and miss his good humor he could always make me smile even when times were at my worst.

I am going to assume, but I'm pretty sure this is the same John Peterson that went to Goodrell Jr. High before he went to East High School? I was a 9th grade gym leader when John was in 7th grade. I remember his curly black hair and his smile. He had a good sense of humor and seemed to be pretty street wise at a young age. I hadn't seen John in a long time which obviously, he moved to California so that would explain that. My heart goes out to his family. You are in my thought's and prayers. He will be dearly missed.
