Raymond “Tom” Thomas
Ankeny
Raymond “Tom” Thomas, 78, passed away suddenly due to Covid-19. He was born October 21, 1942, in Des Moines to Raymond and Dorcas (Coop) Thomas.
Tom retired from the Des Moines Fire Department as a Captain after 36 years of dedicated service. He was a Mason and Shriner belonging to East Gate Lodge and Za-Ga-Zig Shrine. Tom loved riding his Harley, going to casinos, karaoke night at the Eagle’s Lodge, and listening to music. His collection of CDs, records, and Hawaiian shirts was a sight to behold. Tom also loved to travel. He would go to the mixmaster, flip a coin, and that would determine which direction he would venture out into the world.
He is survived by his sons, Brian (Dawn) and Barry (Melissa) Thomas; grandchildren, Sierra, Katelynn (Ben), Conner, Jordan, Abigayle “Abby”, Ethan and Isabella “Izzy”; and great-grandchildren, Lylah, Brooklyn, Kayden and Braden.
He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Lindsay; and his parents.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. His cremated remains will eventually be laid to rest at Masonic Cemetery.

So sorry to hear about Tommy passing so suddenly. His passing is very heart wrenching. Our sympathies to all of you in your extended family. Is there a charity to which we could make a donation in his name? Please take care of one another during this difficult time and stay safe. (Sue Fisher out in Seattle)

I really liked Ray, way too soon to die. Him and I never worked on the same shift but we always talked a lot about our comonalities. Condolences to family, sorry.
