Kenneth Edwin Moore, 78, passed away at Mercy Medical Center on July 19, 2009, following a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Ken was born in Des Moines on August 8, 1930 to Ed and Cleo (Guthrie) Moore. He married Peggy Knauss in October of 1958.
After living in Ankeny for over 37 years, they moved to in Urbandale in 2004. Ken was an Army veteran of the Korean War, and a member of Saylorville Baptist Church. He retired from the Iowa Department of Revenue and Finance in 1993 after 18 years of service. He enjoyed spending time with his family and his dog Sadie who was his constant companion.
Surviving besides his wife of 50 years are two sons, David (Laurie Heald) of Altoona, Iowa and Tim (Brenda) of LeClaire, Iowa; one daughter, Linda (Rick) Nahas of Beaverdale; grandchildren: Kelly, Kayla, Ryan and Kyle Moore, Logan and Alec Nahas and Kristle Heald. Ken was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, July 23, 2009, at Hamilton's near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 N.W. 60th Avenue in Des Moines with burial to follow at Pine Hill Cemetery, 508 NW 54th Street, off of North 6th Avenue. A visitation with family present will be from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family in loving memory of Ken.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the ICU staff at Mercy Hospital for their excellent care, and specifically to Dr. Jose Angel and Dr. Michael Witte, for their outstanding care and compassion.
