June 05, 2009
Gary L. Simpson, 47, died unexpectedly Saturday, June 6, 2009 from an unknown heart condition. A graveside service will be held 12 p.m. Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at Laurel Hill Cemetery. A memorial visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue.
Gary was born October 21, 1961 to Edward and Alice Simpson in Des Moines. He graduated from Saydel High School in 1981 and was honorably discharged from the US Air Force after six years of service. He was an aircraft mechanic for Northrop/Dyncorp Aircraft Service Company. Gary worked as a window specialist for Allied Windows and Windsor Windows, then he managed roofing crews for AAA Roofing, and then was an adoption technician for the Animal Rescue League. He had spent the last several years as the primary caretaker for his father, brother, and sister.
Gary will be missed greatly for his big heart and large laugh; his odd, but funny sense of humor; his love of animals and of his country; his blue eyes and bright smile; and his miraculous knack of turning junk into art.
Gary is survived by his life companion and best friend, Nikki Goodell; her son, Brandon; sisters, Ruby (Donald) Wallace and Patricia Simpson; brothers, Eddie Simpson and Kenny Johnson; many nieces, nephews, cousins, beloved friends, his forever band of brothers; his dogs, Rusty and Titan; and a little girl in Florida who will forever be in his heart, Ashley Marie Briguglio. He was preceded in death by his parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Animal Rescue League.

Ive always thought about looking up my father and everytime I did, i was unsuccessful. Today my friend found him in moments. She showed me his picture and i new it was him. I have just one picture of him that ive held onto since i was a teenager. He is in his air force uniform. After reading his obituary, i couldnt help but cry. To find out that i am so much like him is insane. I almost got into the army as a light wheel vehicle mechanic. Since i didnt get to serve in the military I got My Bachelors of Fine Art from University of North Florida, became a traveler, identify as a youtube mechanic, and i also made a lot of art from dumpster diving and side road shopping. Ill neve forget the one summer i spent with him when i was 8 and he sawzawed a muscle car into a convertible. It was so cool watching him do that and now sawzaw is one if my favorite tools. I wish i would have found him when he was alive. I think we wouldv'e had so much fun. I am thankful he gave me his knack art and mechanics, love for animals and helping people.
In the small chance anyone sees this, i would love to hear some stories about my dad and know what he was really like. Maybe found out what really happened when he had to give me up?

Hello,I recieved a call from Nikki Sunday on the passing of Gary, I just want to express my deepest sympathy and condolences to all of the family. I, myself am deeply saddened and many thoughts and memories have been going through my mind that Gary and I have shared while we were in the Air Force together at Columbus Air Force, Mississippi. We had been friends during work and after our work was done for the day. We had found a common bond with likes and dislikes, one of which was old classic muscle cars of the '60's and '70's era. Specifically old Dodge and Plymouth vehicles. I will never forget his everlonging quest of one day of haveing a 1969 Dodge Super Bee. In reading his obituary, it pegs him to a "T" in describing his personality, a hard worker, honest , sincere and always willing to lend a helping hand to others. It is hard to believe it has been 21 years since we had last seen each other, but kept in touch with Christmas cards and phone calls. We had always talked of one day to either he come to Randolph, NY or I go to De Moine,Iowa, that too, now will be just another memory. I would like to say to Ashley, you truely meant the world to your dad and you were always mentioned in our conversations with the most heartfelt love that a father could have for his daughter and how much that he missed you. Myself, at my age, I always thought of Gary as a younger brother. He will be sadly missed but yet always happily remembered.
