Timothy B. Lee
June 02, 2009
Tim Lee, 51, was delivered into the hands of God on Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at Mercy Hospital with his family and friends by his side. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at Hamilton's Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, with the funeral being held at 1 p.m. Upon Tim's request, cremation will occur after the services.
Tim was born January 20, 1958 to Patricia E. Riley and Timothy B. Lee, Sr. in Iowa City and was raised by his grandmother, Lucille M. Rife. Tim was a strong, proud, independent man who wanted to make his own way in life. He was an outstanding basketball star at Dowling Catholic High School, Class of 1976, then attended South Dakota State University and Ellsworth College. He began singing in the 70s with two of his sisters in Bill Riley's Talent Show, sang in choral groups at Dowling and for weddings. He is remembered as always having a cookie jar smile on his face and a contagious laugh that made everyone else laugh, especially when he told jokes. He did impressions, some of which were even good. One of his best was Robert E. Lee’s "It's in God's hands now," in a soft Southern drawl. His much loved chicken, cooked in any way imaginable, was well known by everyone. He loved to watch Lakers games or read a history book as he snacked on a plate of hot wings.
Tim is survived by his father, Timothy B. Lee, Sr.; daughter, Angela "Boogie" Palmer; grandchildren, ShaDae Lee Palmer, Tekeno Gipson, Damarion Palmer, and Samory Lee Palmer; sisters, Patricia "Sugarfoot" Williams, Eleanor Anderson (Kenneth), June "Cricket" Star Hall (Robert) of Des Moines, Ericia Clark of St. Louis, MO, and Kimberly Lee of Denver, CO; brother, Hosea "Gator" Riley, Jr. of Denver, CO and his companion, Karlene Reading; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia E. Riley; and grandmother, Lucille M. Rife.
Memorial contributions may be given to the family in loving memory of Tim.

My condolences to his father, children, grandchildren and companion. I knew Tim from Dowling, having graduated in the same class. I remembered his mischieveous smile and sense of humor. One time I brought to class my Star Trek phaser and communicators that made sounds. Tim found out and asked me to borrow it. Who could resist that smile. I later found out that Tim was sitting in the library and pressed the communicator's red and green alert sound while looking around pretending he did not know where it was originating from. He then got up and ran out of the library saying that the aliens were coming. We shared a math class and he was joking with the teacher. He pulled out the communicator and said "Scotty beam me up". He then made the transporter noise, sat down and told the teacher he was on the Enterprise. The teacher asked me for my communicator (they were walkie talkies), lifted up the cover and said "Scotty this is Mr. _______, tell Tim he needs to beam back down or he will get an F on the test." Tim then made the transporter noise and said to the teacher and class "I'm back" and sat down.
He was not only an excellent basketball player but a dear friend to everyone that knew him and a wonderful dancer at the mixers. God Bless Each of You Always.

To the family of Tim Lee:
My prayers go out to you and your family. I was just going to some pictures not long ago and came across some pictures of Tim holding my daughter when she was just a baby. Those pictures are 21 years old. How time fly. We had some good laughs with Tim. He will be miss. Again I will continue to keep you in my prayers.
