William H. Hatchitt

William Harold Hatchitt, age 74, passed away Sunday, October 4, 2020.
William was born October 17, 1945 in Des Moines, Iowa to Dr. Robert and Thelma (Swim) Hatchitt. He graduated from East High School in Des Moines. He joined the US Army and was stationed at Fort Benning, GA before being deployed to Vietnam in Helicopter Assault Support Company. After his military service, he started working as a mechanic at Cline Auto Service. He continued to work in that field for various dealerships and owning and running a gas station. He went on to own and operate Auto Service Business with his son, Michael. He then joined NAPA Auto Parts Co from where he retired. He enjoyed fishing with his sons when they were young. He loved auto racing and yearly trips to the Indy 500 with the guys.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Burchfield) Hatchitt; sons, Michael Hatchitt and Ryan Hatchitt; brother, Dennis Hatchitt; and granddaughter, Scarlet Hatchitt. William was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Robert Hatchitt and Thelma Hatchitt.
A private family service will be held. William will be laid to rest at Iowa Veterans Cemetery. Condolences may be expressed at www.HamiltonsFuneralHome.com.

I am so sorry to hear of "Billie's" passing. We went to school together as long time east-siders. I have fond memories of Bill who could sometimes be quite ornery.
