Margaret Wilkerson

Margaret Juanita Wilkerson, 85 died June 1, 2009 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. Funeral services will be 12 pm Friday, June 5 at Hamilton's Southtown Funeral Home with burial following at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 11 am until service time on Friday.
Juanita was born June 23, 1923 in Allendale, MO to Richard Roy and Ida Mae Vasser Dehart. She married George B. Wilkerson on January 3, 1942 and had lived in Des Moines since 1951. To this union was born Bradford and Linda of whom she was very proud. In addition to homemaking, Juanita worked for Look Magazine, Fox Printing and Montgomery Ward and was a member of Park Avenue Christian Church. During her life she enjoyed RV camping, she and George's home at Lake Ponderosa, reading biographies, flower gardening, preparing special meals for her family and Katie, her cat, who was very special to her.
Juanita is survived by her children Bradford (Betty) of Blue Grass, IA, and Linda (Randy) Hortsmann of Des Moines; her granddaughters Shannon Nessen Clark, Stacey Nessen (Tim) Roach of Des Moines, and Kristin (Brett) Wilkerson Bedard of Bettendorf; six great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, two sisters, husband George B. Wilkerson on January 19, 1996 and by her grandson Matthew G. Wilkerson on September 12, 2001.
Grandma Nita was truly loved and will be remembered for her loving care and quirky sense of humor.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa.
