Evelyn L. Griffin

Evelyn LaVonne Griffin, age 81, passed away Monday, August 31, 2020. Services will be held Tuesday, September 8, 2020 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. followed by her funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Burial will take place at Cory Grove Cemetery in Elkhart, Iowa after the services.

Evelyn was born September 8, 1939 in the family home on Elm Street in Des Moines, Iowa to Albert and Grace (Carpenter) Martindale. She completed her schooling at Amos Hiatt in Des Moines. She worked for United Plating Company for many years until her retirement in 1989. She was a member of the Machinist Union and the Good Sam Club.

Evelyn was married to her first husband, Bill Poole, which ended in divorce, but which gave her three beloved children. She remarried Rex Griffin in Des Moines in 1980, and they remained happily married until his death in November of 1990. She enjoyed reading, camping, collecting and shopping in her retirement. Her favorite holiday was Christmas and she always had an extra gift for friends and family that would stop by.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Grace Martindale; her husband, Rex Griffin; and her children, Billy Poole and Pamela Poole.

She is survived by her sister, Marilyn A. Blakeman; son, Danny Poole; grandchildren, Brenda Beveridge and Daniel (Mackenzi) Moon; great-grandchildren, Ted (Amanda) Beveridge III, BreAnna Beveridge, Billy Beveridge, Gracie Moon, and Lainie Kerns; great-great-grandchildren, Evangeline Beveridge and Ted Beveridge IV; as well as a long list of extended family and collected love ones.
