John F. Metz

John F. Metz, 56, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on May 25, 2009. John was born to Evelyn Metz and William Smith on March 23, 1953 in Iowa City, IA. After completing high school, John joined the U.S. Marines. After his honorable discharge he attended college and became a barber, and later returned to AIB for his degree in computer programming. He then went to work for the Iowa Finance Authority. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Janet; sons, Justin and Matt; daughter Alyson; daughter-in-law, Jessica; sisters, Billie, Phyllis (David); brothers, Thomas and Raymond; aunt and uncle, Heather and Ron; brother-in-laws, David (Bev), Jai (Laurie), Johnny (Reba); sister-in-laws, Jasmattie, Babjone (Raymond) and Raj (Herman); several cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ronald and brother-in-law, Seaford Roopnarine.
Services will be held at Hamilton's on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway, West Des Moines, IA. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 28, 2009 and the funeral service will be on Friday, May 29 at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines, IA.
