Brett Shafer
July 20, 2020
Brett Scott Shafer, age 61, passed in his sleep on July 20, 2020, at his place of residence in Ankeny, Iowa.
Brett was born on October 7, 1958, in Virginia, Minnesota, to Lois and Wallace Shafer. He grew up in Northwest Iowa and graduated from Paullina High School. Following high school, he joined the U.S. Army. After serving a tour with the Army, Brett decided to pursue a business career and became the owner of a bar and restaurant. His love of country drew him back to the Army. He rejoined in 1985 and remained active duty, serving in Germany, Kuwait, and Korea until 2000. After his retirement from the Army, he relocated to Ankeny, Iowa, and worked for a local business through 2012.
Brett was united in marriage to Rhonda Felkey on April 14, 1987. And in 1994, he became the father of a daughter, Carrie, his greatest joy.
Besides being a devoted family man, Brett enjoyed the outdoors, wood working, NASCAR, and making beef jerky. He always had time to lend a helping hand and was known for his kind heart and generosity.
Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Carrie Homeister and her husband, Wes, his lifelong friend Rhonda Shafer, his mother Lois Olson, his brother Kevin Shafer and his wife, Nancy, his brother, Lance Shafer, and his sister Janelle Hibbing.
There will be a graveside service at his final resting place, Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel, Iowa.
