Jerry Simons
July 15, 2020
Jerry Simons, 72, passed away on July 15, 2020. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 7, 2020 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, IA.
Jerry was born on September 16, 1947 to Anthony and Dorothy Simons in Viroqua, WI. In 1957, the family moved to Maryville, MO. Jerry served in the US Army from 1966 to 1968 and later graduated from Northwest Missouri State University with a BA in English Literature. After graduation, Jerry worked for Federal Crop Insurance as a Crop Adjuster. He continued with his education, studying in the Computer Programming field. In 1980, Jerry joined Pioneer Hi-Bred International in the IT department where he worked in various positions before retiring in 2011.
Jerry had a quiet gentle spirit. He loved helping others learn and had an incredible intellectual curiosity. His interests were wide over the years, always looking for opportunities to expand his knowledge base. His family was his pride and joy and he took every opportunity to show them.
He is survived by his loving wife, Diana; four stepsons, Rollie Graham (Teresa), Douglas Graham (DeAnna), Kerry Graham (April), and Christopher Graham (Tanya); seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; his brothers, Ron Simons, Darrell Simons (Claudia); and his sisters, Toni Simons and Patti Simons. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Suzie Simons.
