Service Details

Cheryl Jean Floyd was born November 5, 1947 and died April 23, 2009 of ovarian cancer at Taylor House Hospice. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, April 26, 2009 at Hamilton's Southtown Funeral Home. Cheryl's cremated remains will be buried at Resthaven Cemetery at a later date.
Cheryl was born to William "Bing" and Doris Walker, who subsequently divorced. Cheryl was lovingly adopted by Jim A. Cook after his marriage to Doris Walker. With the birth of her brother, Jim, the family was complete.
Cheryl attended school in California and Iowa, graduating from Lincoln High School in Des Moines. Though she dabbled in many careers, her greatest joy was working at Iowa Title. Her love for both the challenge of the job and feeling she was part of a vibrant family were the reasons she jumped up each morning eager to get to work. When her physical disabilities forced her to stop working in 2001, it broke her heart, but she always had her memories of her work and "family" at Iowa Title.
Cheryl was preceded in death by her father "Bing" Walker, her mother Doris Cook; and her beloved son, Scott Dean Floyd, killed at age 16 along with his two best friends by a drunk driver. She is survived by her dad, Jim A. Cook of Des Moines; her brother, Jim R. Cook (Nancy) of Reed Springs, MO; her daughters Julie Lloyd and Wendy Stearns of Des Moines; her two granddaughters Andria and Alyssa Lloyd of Des Moines; and her life partner Carol Edwards of Des Moines.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
At Cheryl's request the dress code for her memorial service is ABSOLUTE COMFORTABLE, CASUAL, NO SUITS – NO TIES.
