I can not begin to tell you how much my heart is hurting over the passing of my uncle George. While he was in Vegas he spent a lot of time with his brother (John W. Pope) that preceded him in death and his family, frieds, nieces and nephews. But what I'm most thankful for is that he attended church frequently and accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. It comforts my heart to know he's in heaven and rejoicing with angels.

R.I.P. Uncle George. I never thought that this would be the way I would have started my morning off on Thursday May 14, 2020 at 4:54 a.m. with a call from Rhonda crying telling me you had passed away. My mind automatically went down memory lane thinking about you. Their was not a time that you were not in our lives whether it was in Des Moines checking in on us and picking up your mail or when you came to visit us in Colorado on your vacations. When we moved to Las Vegas you were not far behind us moving and making Las Vegas your home. In my heart I think you were following your baby brother John Pope who preceded you in death. You were always with us whether it was going to church every Sunday and eating those Sunday dinners at Teresa's house where you were always the first one in the pot. Lol! Or every other holiday that came and went you were there smiling or crying I just can't remember a time when you were not there. I know that if you did not get sick you would still be here laughing and hanging out with us making new memories.
Even though daddy your baby brother was not mentioned in the obituary you made sure that he/we were ever present in your life. So rest in peace Uncle George until we meet again. We love you!

Deepest condolences to George's family and friends, as we cherish his memory. For the past 2 years, I've had the pleasure of bringing a group of high school students from Des Moines Christian to visit Polk City Nursing and Rehab Center. Our SALT Junior Optimist (JOI) Club always sings during their visits, and George was a favorite of everyone. He loved their singing, called them "his kids" and asked them each time when they were going to "make a record." When the pandemic made it impossible for the kids to visit, they decided to record a song for George and his friends to enjoy, and we shared it today... only to learn the sad news that George wouldn't get to finally see his kids make their "record." We hope your family enjoys "Trust in You" by SALT JOI, in memory of George. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_CwOPYHlfSU&feature=share&fbclid=IwAR1ZzbUOdsCxLS1OmtuPh6w6gAP2deC_Se1S_HpkWjSB3Mt2F1RVP9dHbD4

The SALT JOI (Junior Optimist) Club would like to extend their heartfelt condolences to George's family and friends. The kids loved to visit George and the residents at the Polk City Nursing and Rehab Center and sing songs. George fondly referred to them as "his kids" and insisted that they needed to "make a record!" Following is a link to a song that the kids recorded for George and the residents. We were saddened to learn that George had passed away this week and would not hear the "record" he inspired. In his honor, please enjoy the music he so loved to hear. https://youtu.be/_CwOPYHlfSU
