Lester Craig

Lester Merlin Craig, 83, of Des Moines passed away on Saturday, October 21, 2006. Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home with burial following at Franklin Township Cemetery in Santiago, Iowa.
Lester was born May 31, 1923 in Mitchellville, Iowa, the son of Merlin and Rhoda (Pearson) Craig. He was married to Doris Lorraine Goddard on July 20, 1946.
Lester retired in 1988 as a dispatcher from A-1 Ready Mix. He was an Army veteran of World War II 3204 Quarter Master Company European Theatre, and a member of the VFW and the AMVETS. He was active in the Boy Scouts with his sons and enjoyed bowling, fishing and attending his Army reunions. Above all else, Lester enjoyed family gatherings.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Doris; his children Dennis (Barb) of Carlisle, Patricia (Craig) Wyckoff of Des Moines, Jerry (Sandy) Craig of Des Moines, Kenneth (Patti) Craig of Menlo, Shirley Craig of Kent, Washington and Nancy (Jeff) Strait of Winterset, Iowa; his brother Howard (Ann) Craig of Fontana, California; his sister Ella Mae Osborne of Mitchellville; his 14 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Amy Marie; his parents; and his brother, Bertus Craig.
Visitation will be Monday from 1-8pm with the family present from 6-8pm at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Mercy Home Care or Mercy Hospice.
