Barbie Sue Chester

Barbie Sue Chester, age 68, a resident of Belen, NM, passed away on Tuesday, February 18, 2020. Barbie was currently a member of Grace Fellowship in Los Lunas, NM and formerly a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Des Moines, IA. She enjoyed baking, catering, and had previously won ribbons for her pies at the Iowa State Fair. Barbie was a “bargain hunter” often finding bargains at Goodwill. She was also the neighborhood “Mom” opening her home to other children and those in need. Overall, Barbie was a kind, generous, funny lady who loved her family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed.
Barbie was preceded in death by her parents, Elbert and Janalee Reed and son-in-law, David Stanek. She is survived by her loving husband, Edward “Chet” Chester; children, Yolanda Kooker of Altoona, IA, Tammy Stanek of Des Moines, IA, Kristi Jensen of Council Bluffs, IA, Bradley Kooker and wife, Angela of Des Moines, IA, Robert Chester of New Hampshire, Paul Chester and wife, Cindy of Belen, NM, Matt Chester of Virginia Beach, VA, David Chester and wife, Katie of Belen, NM, and Marcus Chester and wife, Sara of Des Moines, IA; brother, Ken Reed of Georgia; sisters, Yvonne Belacourt and Linda D’Arezzo, both of Washington. Also surviving are 26 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m., with a memorial service immediately after at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, March 1, 2020 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines, with a reception following.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Barbie.

I went to North High school with Barbie.
What I remember about her was how out going she was, and her school spirit.
I was so glad I was able to reconnect with her these last few years.

I remember Barbie from when she was a young girl. She was so very kind. She had wonderful parents.
