Daniel Robert Bomhoff passed away Monday morning, December 16th, 2019, of complications from COPD. Dan was born December 1st, 1937, in Madison, SD. He attended high school in Aberdeen, SD, and Shattuck Military Academy in Faribault, MN, where he received his diploma. He attended the University of Nebraska and was a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity. From 1961 – 1967, Dan sold insurance for Lutheran Brotherhood in Beaumont, TX, Denver, CO, and Phoenix, AZ. In 1968, he made the dean’s list at Wartburg College in Waverly, IA, with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and minors in social work and math. In 1970, he received his Master of Social Work from Washington University in St. Louis, MO. While in St. Louis, he worked out of the mayor‘s office of community development at Methodist Children’s Home, St. Patrick’s Church School, and Pruitt-Igoe. From 1971-1976 he worked for the Iowa Department of Human Services in Des Moines, IA. From 1976 to retirement, he worked for Heartland Area Education Agency and Bomhoff & Associates private practice. He was very passionate and proud of his time as a youth soccer coach in the 1980’s. He enjoyed pheasant hunting, chess, playing Risk on the computer. He loved to waltz and jitterbug and go dancing four nights a week while listening to live bands at his favorite hangouts. He is greatly missed. He is survived by his children Leslie (Tadeaux), Tyson (Janet) and Alexandra; grandchildren, Leon, Tito, Elliot, and Scarlett; and siblings, Burt and Elizabeth (David).

There will be a celebration of life at 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 27, 2019 at Lutheran Church of Hope, 925 Jordan Creek Parkway, West Des Moines with a desert reception to follow.
