September 02, 2019
JoAnn Meyer, 83, passed away Monday, September 2, 2019 at her home. Visitation will be held Friday, September 6, 2019 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street, Des Moines, Iowa. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m. also at the funeral home.
JoAnn was born October 21, 1935 in Des Moines, Iowa. She married the love of her life, Dean Meyer, on November 21, 1957.
JoAnn held her role as wife, mother and homemaker sacred. She was very proud of her family and their accomplishments. After raising four children, JoAnn worked to build a second business with Dean, followed by 20 years of employment with the Des Moines Public Schools. JoAnn was an exceptionally hard worker who found great joy in helping others. She was always the first to volunteer or donate. All who knew her found her to be incredibly kindhearted.
She was an avid animal lover and a great cook. She spent 60 years perfecting her secret recipes for her family. She was also a champion bowler, winning the State Championship along with her team in 1979. She brought passion to everything she did. Her greatest passion was for her husband and their unwavering devotion to each other.
She is survived by her loving husband, Dean; children, Rick Meyer of Des Moines, Shelly (Nick) Bosovich of West Des Moines, and Scott (Nicole) Meyer of Johnston; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and a growing number of great-great grandchildren.
JoAnn is preceded in death by her parents, siblings and daughter, Kelly.
Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the American Cancer Society in memory of JoAnn.

JoAnn was my cousin. She will be missed greatly by Dean and all of her family. Although our lives took different directions, and locations, she will as always remain close in our hearts. I dearly wanted to attend her memorial but the trip from Waverly was more than I thought I should tackle. My thoughts and prayers were with you. Edna's son, Maurice Campbell.
