Sandra Sanford

Sandra Kaye Sanford, 78, passed away peacefully after a courageous fight with bladder cancer on Monday, July 29, 2019 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born August 7, 1940 in Des Moines to William and Gladys Sales. She met her husband Harold of 51 years while they were both working at the Paramount Theater. In the 1970s, she was a transcriptionist for medical center anesthesiologists. Primarily Sandra was a homemaker. She took great pride in caring for her family, keeping a pristine home, and decorating for the holidays. She was a life-long Catholic and enjoyed reading, visiting Las Vegas, and listening to Tom Jones.

Sandra is survived by her sons, Harold Sanford Jr., Bryan (Kathy) Sanford and Shawn Sanford; grandchildren, Abigail Sanford and Drake (Melanie) Sanford; great-grandchildren, Greyson and Finley; step-grandchildren, Dede (Rich) Richardson, Jeff (Melissa) Husmann, Erin (Tonya) Austin, their children and their children’s children; brothers, Steven (Chris Raymond) Sales and Mark (Sherry) Sales; sisters, Joyce (Gary) Shoeman and Janelle (LeRoy) Tassin; half-sister, Pamela Sales; brother-in-law, Ronald Sanford; brother-in-law, Dennis (Barb) Sanford; sister-in-law, Deanna Rizk; sister-in-law, Annette Sales; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Harold and her brother, William Sales.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, August 2, 2019 at All Saints Catholic Church, 650 NE 52nd Ave., Des Moines, with burial following at Lowman Cemetery in Runnells, IA. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 1 from 5 to 8 p.m., with a Prayer Service at 7 p.m., at Hamilton's Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines.
