Steven L. Greenfield
June 23, 2019
Steven Greenfield, 77, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2019, at Taylor House Hospice surrounded by the love and comfort of his family. He was born in Belmond, Iowa, on January 6, 1942, to proud parents Frederick and Luella Greenfield.
Steve graduated from Alexander High School and served 6 years with the National Guard. In 1968, he married the love of his life, Barbara Bertrand, and they shared 50 beautiful years together.
Steve was an auctioneer for 50-plus years and was highly regarded, conducting more than 5,000 auctions in the Des Moines area. He was a member of the Iowa Auctioneers Association for more than 50 years, serving as Grand Marshall in 2017 at the Iowa State Fair.
Steve was an avid fisherman. He loved summering at their home in Longville, Minnesota, where he spent many hours on the water fishing. In 2006, Steve and Barb retired to the Palm Harbor area of Florida.
Steve had a strong personal relationship with the Lord and made his faith a priority. Aside from auctioneering and fishing, he loved being at the horse track, tinkering in his garage, and spending time with his family and loved ones.
Steven is survived by his wife, Barb; daughter, Stephanie (Clint) Rees; son, Ryan (Stephanie) Greenfield; grandchildren, Hayden Rees, Cooper Greenfield, and Reid Riding-King; his sister, Linda (Ron) Herdliska; as well as Marcy Greenfield, other loving family and countless friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Luella.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 29, 2019, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 4-8 p.m., also at the funeral home.

My sincerest condolences to the Greenfield family. As a young kid, in the mid to late 70's, I attended countless auctions with my grandparents, who worked with Steve, and I will cherish those memories forever. Steve always seemed larger than life to me back then, and let's face it, he really was.
Skilled, professional, personable, and friendly are just some of the traits I learned from Steve at a very young age.
A wonderful man with a wonderful family.
I'll be thinking of Barb, and all of the Greenfield family.

Thoughts and prayers for this wonderful man. Also his dear family at this time. We just found out about his death. We would of went to the service. If we knew about it. We meant Steve so many years ago.Because we love Auctions. Not a day goes by that we think of him. He was the very best Auctioner ever. Loved going to all his over the many years we went. He also had a amazing crew that helped him with the auction like setting stuff up and moving things. He had a heart of gold and was a very amazing man to know. He loved his job and people too. We have so many fond memories of this great man,God gained a other Angel that day. Always enjoyed visiting with him. Love the great pic you picked out for him now at this so sad time.May God wrap his loving arms around each of you at this time. Please remember that is will always be watching over you all and close in your hearts always. Also the many wonderful memories and times you all shared. He is with his Lord and Savior now. We are blessed to have known Steve. He will never be for gotten. Sonya and Steve Hudson of Altoona Iowa.

Barb and Greenfield family sorry for your loss, thank you for sharing Steve with us. Steve was a great friend of Miracle Bible Camp and to me personally. We both enjoy getting a deal, brainstorming fund raising, fishing and helping young people experience a life changing week of camp. Because of Jesus we enjoyed impacting lives at MBC and I look forward to eternity together.

Great man, great auctioneer. Worked for him a few times. Don't know how many auctions I bought stuff out of that he had. He was serious, but lighthearted as well and at the end of all sales it was time to tip a couple and reflect in the day. He's missed already. Rest In Peace Steve, hope there's some Big Bass in heaven and your catching em all.
