Service Details
Donald R. Pearson, 65, passed away at his home Sunday, February 1, 2009. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 5, 2009 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 600 6th Ave., of which he was an active member. Burial will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
Don was born September 25, 1943 in Des Moines. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Don retired as an executive assistant of the Iowa Workforce for the State of Iowa. He enjoyed volunteering for many organizations.
Don is survived by his son, John (Kimberly) Pearson; grandchildren, Kayla and Christopher; and brother, Marvin (Beverly) Pearson. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Alice Pearson and his son, Matt.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Daniel Gervich and staff, and friends, Lee Blair and Kathy Mahoney.

John,
You won't remember me but our families were friends in the early 1970's when you lived next door to us on SE 7th Street. I remember that your folks canned tomatoes and made the best spaghetti sauce that simmered all day long. I would babysit for you and Matt. You and my son Lance are the same age. Seeing your dad's obituary brought back a flood of memories and I just wanted you to know I was thinking of you and I am sorry for your loss. I kind of lost track of your family but I would like you to say hello to Jean for me, too.
I have a friend that attends St. John's and she said that your dad was much loved there.

My husband, daughter, and I knew Don through Church. He was a constant at the Saturday night services.
My daughter, Sammie age 6, was absolutely in love with Don. After every service she had to go and find him and have him shower her with compliments and attention.
Don was a good Christian who welcomed every visitor to the service. He was a sweet man who made my little girl feel special. We even remember him being at her baptism service.
May the Lord comfort you in your loss.
