James "Jimmy" Michael Hastie

James “Jimmy” Michael Hastie, 68, of Creston went home to be with Jesus on Monday, April 29, 2019.

Jimmy was the fifth child of nine born to John and Mary Ellen Hastie in Des Moines on August 28 1950. He went to St. Anthony's School where he graduated from the 8th grade. Jimmy joined the United States Army in 1970.

Jimmy will be dearly missed by his companion of 40 years, Scheryl Whitney; sons, James and Jesse Hastie; step-children, Pete Pirillo, Amy, Brandie and Danny Whitney and Victoria Phipps; sisters, Mary Lu Wignall, Rita (Barry) Bethel, Rebecca South, Margaret Hastie, and Elizabeth (Al) Martin; 11 grandchildren; two great- grandchildren; many nephews, nieces and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.

The family will greet friends Tuesday, May 7, 2019 from 9 to 10:30 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 10:30 a.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Jimmy will be laid to rest at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter.
