Dwight (Bill) M Hensley

Dwight “Bill” Hensley, 87, died Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at Kavanagh House, 900 56th Street, Des Moines, Iowa. He was born February 3, 1921 to Fred and Merle Hensley in Leon, Iowa.
He served in the United States Navy until his honorable discharge in 1946.
Bill was united in marriage to Violet Peterson-Kollmorgen on August 14, 1948.
Bill worked for the Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. for 37 years, retiring in 1983. He was a member of the United Steelworkers Union Local #310. After his retirement he kept busy working as a school crossing guard for the Des Moines School District. He was an active member of Our Saviour Lutheran Church. His greatest love was working and caring for his family, his church and relaxing with his dog, Billi.
He is survived by his loving wife, Violet; his children, Gary Hensley, Carol Hanson, Steve (Lauren) Hensley and Sharon Dop; 16 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and two children from a previous marriage, Nancy and Leota. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; and two sisters.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 10, 2009 at the Our Saviour Lutheran Church, 4003 2nd Ave., Des Moines, burial to follow at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines, Iowa. Family will greet friends from 6 – 8 p.m. Friday evening at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines, Iowa.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Our Saviour Lutheran Church in loving memory of Bill.
