Service Details

Clyde J. Williams is finally Home for Christmas! Clyde, 90, went home to be with those he loved the most, the Lord Jesus Christ and his beloved wife, Lois on Friday, December 12, 2008. Clyde was a life-long resident of Des Moines and most recently lived at Ramsey Village.
Clyde was born September 8, 1918 near Orient Iowa to Everett and Anna Williams. His family moved to Des Moines soon after. He attended school in Des Moines and graduated from East High. After high school he joined the US Army and was stationed in Joplin, MO for 3 years during WWII.
He married Lois L Wood in Des Moines on Sept 28, 1943. They spent 49 happy years together. They loved to travel and spend time with their children, grandchildren and extended family.
Clyde was employed by Northwestern Bell Telephone Company for 39 years as an engineer. He was proud of the fact that he worked his way up through many positions in the company and was the last of the non-degreed engineers.
He was a life-time member of the East High School alumni association. He enjoyed being part of such groups as the Pioneers, the Cross Trainers and the Over- Fifty Club. Both Clyde and Lois were active in their church and Clyde never wanted to miss a carry–in--dinner. Even in his later years he continued to work at the Iowa State Fair and during the elections at the polling place.
Clyde always loved a challenge. He enjoyed camping with family and watching his grandchildren’s sporting events.
He is survived by his two sons, Doug (Jolene) Williams of Onalaska, WI and Craig Williams of Des Moines; six grandchildren, Jeni (Mark) Hinitt, Karen Williams, Ben Williams, Matt (Lisa) Williams, Craig (Kylie) Williams Jr., Mandy Williams (fiancée Jesse Ryan); four great-grandchildren, Jonah and Lily Williams, Andie and Matt Hinitt ; two brothers, Gilbert (Ina) Williams of Des Moines, Bob (Joan) Williams of Pleasant Hill; two sisters, Geneva (Alan) Schneider of Racine, WI and Bernice Brown of Des Moines and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois, his parents and his brother in law, Millard (Brownie) Brown.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday and from 10 AM until the time of service Tuesday at the funeral home. The burial will be at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Sudan Interior Missions, as this was a favorite of his because his family was part of the organization and the Alzheimer’s Association.
