Helen Baker, 88, passed away peacefully early Saturday morning, January 26, 2019. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 1 at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery followed by a reception at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave, Des Moines.
Helen was born in Grove Township, Davis County to Alva and Fannie Johannesson Battin on November 8, 1930. In 1948, she married David Baker and they moved to Des Moines. Their son, Danny was born and she remained a homemaker until she went to work for EMCO Manufacturing. Through the years, she and her husband enjoyed camping, traveling, and giving their dachshunds lots of love and attention. Upon their retirement, they were able to spend 27 winters in Florida.
Helen is survived by her son, Dan (Sherry); grandsons, Daniel (Jodi) and Jeremy (Stacie); great-grandchildren, Mekhail, Trinity, Joslynn, Delaney, Emersynn, Ryan, Jordan and Jake; four great-great-grandchildren; brother, George Battin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, David; parents, Alva and Fannie Battin; brothers, Al, LaVerne, and Leo; sister, Fern Bishop; and a grandson.
In remembrance of Helen, memorials may be made to Suncrest Hospice who did a wonderful, heartfelt job in caring for Helen (Suncrest Hospice Iowa, 5959 Village View Drive, Suite 100, West Des Moines, IA 50266), or to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa .

My heart aches for all of you with the loss of aunt Helen. She was one of a kind and I will miss her dearly. I pray you can all find comfort in your memories and knowing she and uncle Red are together again.
