Thomas Richard Calvert, Jr.
January 21, 2019
Thomas Richard Calvert, Jr., 67, of Truro, IA, passed away on January 21, 2019, in Des Moines, Iowa.
Richard was born in Denver, Colorado on July 10, 1951, and was the only child of Thomas Richard Calvert, Sr, and Agnes (Weinberger) Calvert. He grew up in the Orange, Texas area where he graduated from Bridge City High School and attended Texas A&M University.
Before moving to Iowa, Richard lived in San Antonio, Texas for over 25 years. He was a brick mason by trade like his father and uncle. Richard took great pride in his work and was most proud to have supervised the brick and masonry work of the Convention Center in San Antonio, which was a multi-year endeavor.
He was an avid Chicago Bears fan and spent many hours watching the games whether the Bears were having a winning season or not. He was a great supporter of the Wounded Warrior Project and made donations to them and other charity organizations regularly. He also was proud to donate his organs to Iowa Donor Network so that others in need might benefit.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Aggie Calvert and his son, Aaron Calvert.
Richard is survived by his sons, Jeremy Shane Calvert and Micaela Chase of Waukee, IA and Chad and Leah Calvert of Cedar Hill, TX; and daughter, Erika and Trevor Cozad of Yale, IA. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Alyssa Watson and Jake Tuller, Destiny Watson, Caitlyn Calvert, Lindsey Watson, Jessica Watson, Natalie Watson and Austin Calvert.
Cremation is being handled by Hamilton Funeral Home of Des Moines. Rather than a memorial service, the family will be having a gathering of family and friends on Saturday, January 26, 2019 in Waukee, IA. In lieu of plants or flowers, should you feel inclined to send them, we would ask that you make a small donation to either the Wounded Warrior Project or Iowa Donor Network , in his name.
