Gary Allen Messer

Gary Messer, 66, passed away January 20, 2019. He was born May 5, 1952, in Des Moines, to Raymond and Joyce Messer.
Gary proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, road trips, and riding his motorcycle. However, his favorite hobby was keeping his Ford clean. Above all else, he loved spending time with his family and spoiling his grandchildren.
Gary is survived by his daughter, Brenda (Mike) Hochmuth; son, Gary (Elizabeth) Messer; 3 grandchildren; sister, Belinda; brother, Jack; and his companion, JoAnne. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Joyce; and brother, Steve.
A celebration of life gathering will be held from 12-2 p.m. on Monday, February 4, 2019, with a memorial service to begin at 2:00 p.m., at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street SW in Altoona. Burial will be held at Iowa Veterans Cemetery at a later date.

Gary Messer was a great friend to my ex husband David Glover. I remember playing cards and the kids playing. Gary was a great fishing partner we love Gary Messer may he rest in peace

Joann I am so sorry to hear of this. It was really a shock to us. We enjoyed talking to him last summer out in the yard while mowing the grass if ever you need anything or talk just come over and we will help you. Clyde and Carol Bradford

This man was taken to early. Joan and I remember fondly the time that we spent with all the kids as youngsters.
Gary grew up to be a fine young man and a hard worker. We will miss him. Our condolences to the family.
