Leonard Woodard

Leonard L. Woodard, 82, passed away November 29, 2018. He was born November 6, 1936, to Robert and Goldie (Woods) Woodard in rural Decatur County, Iowa.
He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Leon High School in 1955.
Leonard worked as a mechanic and managed multiple service stations prior to being a machine operator at Benderoff Construction and Iowa Roadbuilders. He was then a route manager for Deluxe Uniform and Charles Todd. In 1977, he moved to the Salisbury House where he worked as caretaker for ISEA, retiring after 22 years in 2000.
Leonard was a talented mechanic who enjoyed building and racing cars. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and share knowledge of his skills. Leonard also enjoyed gardening, camping, traveling, and snowmobiling. He was a member of the Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan snowmobile clubs and served as past President of the Saylorville Dam Snowmobile Club.
A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, he had an overwhelming love of his friends, family, and extended family.
Leonard is survived by his children, Ron (Mary) Woodard, Debbie (Jeff) Wall, Kathy (Rodney) Larimer, and Daniell (Taylor) Rademaker; 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 2 great great-grandchildren; siblings, Robert Woodard and Richard Woodard; as well as other loving family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Mike Woodard; daughter-in-law, Janet Woodard; first wife, Linda Woodard Cornell; second wife, Sandra Woodard; and siblings, Glenn Woodard and Joyce Krug.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, December 4, 2018, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 5, 2018, at Decatur City Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Heart Association in loving memory of Leonard.

I have many fond memories of being with Leonard when I was younger. He taught me alot about race cars and engines over the years. And taught me how to drive his race hauler. He was patient and would always answer my questions so I would understand. Thank you Leonard, rest in peace.

As we have lost another great racecar driver and a great guy, I will be praying for Leanard's family at this sad time. It's our loss, but Heaven's gain! Imagine celebrating Christmas in Heaven! Leanard will be missed by so many.
