Gerald "Mitch" Mitchell

Gerald “Mitch” C. Mitchell, 76, passed away at Kavanagh House on 56th Street on Sunday, September 30, 2018, surrounded by the love and comfort of his family. He was born January 6, 1942, in San Diego, California, to Clayton and Florence Mitchell.
Mitch and his wife made their home in Iowa where they raised their three daughters. Later in life, they moved to Minnesota where they lived for 20 years prior to moving to Mission, Texas where they resided in the Green Gate Grove Community.
Mitch was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing, hunting, water sports, and snow skiing.
Mitch is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Lynne; his daughters, Dawn (Steve) Gee, Kim Mitchell-Scharff, and Suzan (Chris) Oxley; grandchildren, Shane (Sara) Gee, Ashley (Brian) Wedo, Paige (Kase) Heuermann, Zachary Scharff, Bailey Scharff, Jackson Oxley, and Maxwell Oxley; great-grandchildren, Jaden, Brian, Mackenzie, Nolan, Kane, Broderick, and Holden; his brothers, David (Frances) Mitchell, Steve Mitchell, Tom (Gail) Mitchell, and Dick (Mary) Mitchell; sisters, Mary (Bill) Haluptzok, Shirley (Jerry) Wilson, and Rita (Paul) Leatherman; as well as a host of other loving family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 6, 2018, at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street SW in Altoona, with visitation held one hour prior to service time.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Kavanagh House on 56th Street in loving memory of Mitch.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this incredibly sad time. I will always remember Jerry fondly , and have wonderful memories of him . His smile, his laugh,his wit, and the great love for his family. I know he leaves behind a wonderful family , and you all will be a great source of comfort and strength to one another .
