Lena Riche

Lena Riche, 101, residing at Fleur Heights Care Center, peacefully joined her Heavenly family on July 24, 2008. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 28, 2008 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St. with burial at Dunreath Cemetery near Knoxville, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Lena was born February 4, 1907, at her parents farm near Swan, Iowa, daughter of Samuel Scott and Bessie May (Brown) McDaniel. She married Lloyd Ellsworth Riche in Knoxville in 1922.
She was a wife, mother and homemaker during the world’s toughest times and always had a smile, kiss and hug for family and friends who stopped to visit. She loved annual family campouts, flower gardening and creating crafts, as well as shopping and finding treasurers at garage sales.
Lena is survived by her daughter-in-law, Shirley (Dick) Riche; sister-in-law, Norma McDaniel, grandchildren, Peggy (Melvin) Crain, Terry (Donna) Freed, Barry (Katie) Freed, Kenneth (Becky) Riche, Dianna (Paul) Bowers, Roger (Jodie) Riche, Tami (Michael) Stephens, Tim (Pam) Razor, Jody (Jim) Williams, Danny Riche, Debby Riche, Dana (Ticia) Riche; 31 great grandchildren, 29 great-great grandchildren, two great-great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Also left to honor her memory are her Brothers and Sisters at Calvary Apostolic Church.
She is preceded in death by her parents and husband, Lloyd, in 1966; children, Pauline (Charles) Freed, Donald (Darlene) Riche, infant son Kenneth Riche, Dick Riche and Shirley (John) Razor Kinney, as well as two grandchildren, Ricky Freed and Shelley Kay Razor and one great-great grandchild, Kimberly Jarnagin.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Iowa Hospice in Johnston or Calvary Apostolic Church.
