Jack Burris, age 84, passed away Sunday, May 20, 2018 at Norwalk Nursing and Rehab.

Jack was born December 17, 1933 in Des Moines, Iowa to Russel and Goldie Burris. He was raised on the family farm. During his working years, he was employed as police officer in Kansas City. After his retirement, he became a security guard and he loved his job. Jack was married twice, first to Darlene Beasley and then to Audrey Burris.

Jack was a devout Christian and loved God and reading the Bible. He was not able to fulfill his dream of becoming a Pastor, but he had found memories of practicing sermons when he was a child to the animals on the family farm.

Nature held a special place in Jack’s heart and he enjoyed being outdoors and traveling with his wife, Audrey. His hobbies included coin collecting, listening to Big Band music, and watching war movies and movies from the 1960s. Jack had a great knowledge of history and was proud of his Southern past.

Jack enjoyed solitude and passing time quietly, until it came to the holidays. He was a good husband and took very good care of his wife, Audrey. He will be fondly remembered for his candid manner. Jack often was quite the rascal and was not afraid to speak his mind. For instance, he liked to share is strong opinion that Cadillacs were the best cars and that men with long hair and facial hair were not as attractive as clean cut.

Jack is survived by his sons, Manuel “Paul” Vadillo and Randy (Wilma) McFarland; grandchildren, Eric Augustine Vadillo, Garrett Austin Vadillo, April Dudley and Danielle Barnes; great-grandchildren, Raymond and Alan Dudley; and his nieces, Janet Sue Burris and Alana Sparks.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey on May 17, 2018; brother, Robert Wesley Burris; daughter, Ruth Ann Baire; his parents; and his sisters, Dorothy Kimberly, Helen Cody and Mary Sparks.

There will be a joint service for Jack and his wife, Audrey on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery.
