Audrey R. Burris

Audrey Ruth Burris, age 85, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 17, 2018.

A joint service for Audrey and her husband, Jack will be held on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery.

Audrey was born February 1, 1933 in Des Moines, Iowa to Harry James and Ruth Demetra Collins. She was blessed with one son – Manuel “Paul” Vadillo. She married Jack Burris on June 23, 1969. She enjoyed celebrating their 25th, 30th and 40th wedding anniversaries. Audrey was proud to witness her son graduate from Navy Bootcamp in 1975 in Great Lakes, Illinois. She was thrilled by the birth of her grandchildren in 1989 and 1992 and was happy to be a part of her son’s wedding on March 4, 1998. A momentous event in her life was meeting her husband’s children after 35 years of marriage in 2004.

Audrey was a wonderful wife and mother. She loved spreading the Word of God. As a Sunday School teacher, she often took her son with her so that he could learn with the other children. She was a kind and understanding person, instilling the lessons of good manners, compassion, generosity and kindness in her son and the children she taught. She was quick to lend a helping hand whenever she could.

Audrey enjoyed playing board games and card games. She liked to cook and passed this skill on to her son. She was raised on her father’s farm and carried the value of a good work ethic with her throughout her life. She learned about nature and water divining from her father and her son, Paul enjoyed developing these skills as well. Audrey loved animals and enjoyed playing with their family dog and teaching him tricks. She enjoyed traveling with her family and many found memories were made on family vacations.

She is survived by her sons, Manuel “Paul” Vadillo and Randy (Wilma) McFarland; grandchildren, Eric Augustine Vadillo, Garrett Austin Vadillo, April Dudley and Danielle Barnes; great-grandchildren, Raymond and Alan Dudley; brother, Dale Robert Collins; and other extended family and friends.

Audrey's husband, Jack died three days after her on May 20, 2018. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Ruth Collins; six brothers; one sister; and her grandchildren, Michael Joseph Vadillo and McKenzie Lee Vadillo.
