Jaunita Grimes

Juanita Jeanne Grimes died at Union Park Care Center, Thursday, July 3, 2008. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday July 8, 2008 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be an hour prior to service.
Jeanne was born on December 12, 1922 in Adair County, Iowa to Clarence and Myrtle Jones and grew-up on a farm near Dexter, Iowa. After graduating from Stuart High School in 1940, she moved to Des Moines and attended the Mercy School of Nursing where she graduated in 1946. Jeanne had a long career as a registered nurse with both Mercy Hospital and Iowa Lutheran Hospital. She was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church.
Jeanne married James Grimes on February 27, 1949 to which union was born one daughter, Eva.
Jeanne is survived by her daughter, Eva Cross of Des Moines: grandson, Travis “T.J.” Cross of Illinois; granddaughter, Amanda “Mandi” (Stephen) Jones of Hawaii; great-grandchildren, Barrett and Noella Jones of Hawaii; sister, Mildred (Ken) Wendell of Des Moines: and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Grimes; parents, Clarence and Myrtle Jones; three sisters, Eathyl Draman, Esther Jones and Marie Bloomquist; and one brother, Elvin “Shorty” Jones.
Memorial contributions may be made to Epworth United Methodist Church in loving memory of Juanita.
