Service Details
Mary Schooley, 55, died at Taylor House Wednesday, July 2, 2008. Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 5, 2008 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St. with burial at Glendale Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Mary was born January 9, 1953. She was a lifelong resident of Des Moines and a graduate of East High. Mary enjoyed sports of all kinds and was an excellent athlete, she especially loved softball and bowling.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Shelly Roberts; mother, Lena Schooley; three brothers, four sisters, many aunts and uncles; and four grandsons. She was preceded in death by her father and three brothers.

I had the pleasure of working with Mary for almost 10 years at Kinko's downtown.During that time we became friends and had alot of fun together, making the best out of every work day. We would exchange stories about our families and give each other advice during hard times. Mary was a fun person to be around, she was funny,smart, and very kind and considerate. She was a part of our family at Kinko's and we were very sad when she had to leave because of her health problems. She was one of the best people at her job, as we called her the Queen of the copiers, because she could make them do anything. I will never forget Mary being there for me during the loss of my husband, just as we all were there for her during the loss of her brother and niece in the past several years. You spend every day, 8 hours a day with your co-workers and they are, as I said before, they become a member of your extended family. A member we thought of every day after she left, and kept her picture on a bulletin board as a symbol of great respect for a family member well missed. Her picture will remain on my bulletin board-a symbol of a friend I'm glad to have known.
God bless Mary's family, Shelly & boys whom she loved dearly and spoke of daily. I've never seen a Grandma so proud. To her mom, my sincerest sorrowful condolences for your daughter who spoke highly of you as well. You raised a headstrong, wonderful daughter and should be proud of her, as I know you are.
Someone once told me this saying "Don't be sorry I'm gone, be glad you got to know me while I was here"
I'm so glad I did.
My thoughts are with you all......I will miss you a whole lot Mary!!!!!!!!!!!!!
