Jena Chandler DeGeest
Of Altoona, Iowa
Jena DeGeest, passed away on March 19, 2018 from complications of pneumonia at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, IA. Jena was born on March 30, 1999, in Des Moines, Iowa. All services will be held at Altoona United Methodist Church, 602 5th Ave SW, Altoona. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, March 23, 2018. Funeral service will begin at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 24, 2018, also at the church. Cremation will occur after services.
Jena was born the daughter of Ron DeGeest and Juli DeGeest-Theilen on March 30, 1999. Jena was born with Rett Syndrome. She will be forever missed by everyone who knew and loved her.
Jena is survived by her father, Ron DeGeest (Dalene); step-brothers, Adam and Alex Gehrts; step-sister, Abby Gehrts; mother, Juli DeGeest-Theilen (Rick Theilen); half-sisters, Grace and Olivia Theilen; grandmother, Diane Winslow; and grandfather, Bruce DeGeest.
She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Sherman and Betty Chandler.
In lieu of flowers donations may be directed to either the Local Chapter of The Ronald McDonald House or SEP Dollars for Scholars would be appreciated.

So sorry to hear of Jena's passing. I know her life has been a struggle. Now she is in the arms of Jesus and has to suffer no longer. I will be thinking of you and your family in the coming days.

We have known Jena's mother and aunts for most of their lives. We knew Jena's grandparents, Sherman and Betty Chandler. We have watched this little girl and her family thru FB for a long time. Every one of you has been phenomenal with your care and love. Jena was an inspiration to so many. She understood love and strength. Now she is flying with the angels and will always be with you. God bless you and give you peace at such a painful time. We love you

Even though I didn't get the chance to know you personally while you were here on Earth sweetheart you touch my life in more ways than you'll ever know.
I will miss that sweet smile and hearing about your daily activities and just know that you are a blessing to both here on Earth and I know that you were sweet angel up in heaven. It gives me Comfort to know that you're no longer in pain and you no longer confined by your limitations. I hope to someday get to meet you in heaven until that time sweet darling fly fly free.

Ron and family words cannot express how heavy my heart is for the loss of your sweet treasure and child. The love and devotion you gave to your daughter will be your blessing and greatest gift moving forward while she waits for you in heaven. Im not family or a close friend but I knew you without a doubt was the best Dad in the world and your Jena knew it as well. Be peaceful in your life because she will always be with you.
